Law Society issues warning over Bournemouth Crown Court delays

The number of open cases at Bournemouth Crown Court has significantly increased, rising from 410 in 2016 to 718 in 2025, indicating a crisis in the justice system. The average time to conclude a case has also grown from 530 to 619 days. Mark Evans, president of The Law Society, emphasized that systemic issues, such as lack of resources and under-investment, contribute to the backlog. He warned that delays negatively impact victims, witnesses, and defendants, complicating their lives and affecting evidence quality. The Ministry of Justice acknowledged the crisis and announced plans for substantial investment and reforms to improve efficiency and outcomes.
