Towns in Dorset can now apply to be the County’s Town of Culture for 2027, with a successful applicant receiving £30,000 in match-funding from Dorset Council to support a year-long cultural programme. Managed by the Arts Development Company, the initiative aims to enhance cultural access and community involvement. Previous years saw significant community engagement, with Bridport attracting 10,000 attendees and Portland and Weymouth welcoming over 15,000 through various projects. Towns must outline their cultural vision and community engagement plans in their applications, which close on July 13, 2026, and include a short video detailing their proposals.
