Bournemouth Airport will temporarily assist RAF operations during runway upgrades at RAF Brize Norton, the UK’s main military air mobility hub. Occasional operations by the RAF’s A400 Atlas and C17 Globemaster fleets will occur at Bournemouth while most aircraft will operate from MOD Boscombe Down. The A400 Atlas can carry up to 116 passengers or 37 tonnes, while the C17 is used for heavy-lift transport and humanitarian missions. Airport Managing Director Steve Gill emphasized that the facility is well-equipped for such operations and assured that normal passenger services won’t be affected. Aircraft operations are expected until completion in autumn.
