Dorset Council reported over 100,000 missed bin collections in the last fiscal year, with Ferndown experiencing the most issues. A total of 110,667 missed collections were recorded by March 2026, far exceeding the council’s target of 800 missed collections per 100,000 households. Of these, 83,962 were due to operational issues like staff shortages and inadequate vehicles, particularly the inability to collect glass and mixed recycling simultaneously in Ferndown. Additionally, 20,711 missed collections were linked to external factors such as road closures, obstructive parking, and severe weather conditions, including flooding.
