Residents of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole are urged to support the South Western Ambulance Service, facing record demand during the ongoing heatwave. On one day, the service handled over 5,200 calls and 4,300 incidents, a 34% increase, primarily related to heat-related issues like falls and breathing difficulties. Director Pete Brown emphasized the need to reserve ambulances for life-threatening emergencies and suggested managing non-critical issues, like sunburn or mild dehydration, at home or through NHS 111. Residents are also encouraged to stay hydrated, avoid the sun during peak hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
