Dorset Council is participating in a pilot program for a new AI planning prototype aimed at expediting householder planning applications, such as extensions and loft conversions, which could reduce processing times from eight weeks to four. Alongside Dorset, Barnet and Camden councils are testing this tool, which helps triage applications and offers initial assessments for planning officers. Final decisions will still require review by qualified planners. Additionally, another AI tool called Extract is being rolled out to all councils in England to digitize old planning documents and maps.
