Council marks Jo Cox anniversary

On June 16, 2026, BCP Council members commemorated Jo Cox, a Labour MP murdered on the same date in 2016. Councillors, including chairman Lesley Dedman and Labour leader Patrick Canavan, honored her legacy and emphasized her belief that people share more in common than their differences. The event also addressed the increasing abuse and intimidation faced by elected officials, with a Local Government Association survey revealing that nearly three-quarters of councillors experienced such issues in the past year. The gathering aimed to promote unity and remembrance of Cox’s impact on politics and society.
