Support for tougher Bournemouth parking fines

Councillors in Bournemouth are backing stricter measures against illegal parking this summer, including higher fines and increased vehicle clamping and towing. Richard Herrett advocated for these powers to become permanent across Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. However, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander emphasized that the new trial must satisfy stricter criteria due to concerns over last year’s implementation. Some councillors argue that enforcement alone won’t solve parking issues, advocating for increased investment in park-and-ride services, cycle lanes, public transport, and safer walking routes. The BCP Council has yet to announce specifics for this year’s trial, which is expected to resemble last summer’s efforts.
