Expanding beach waste bins would lead to ‘sea of bins’

BCP Council is under pressure to tackle litter issues on Bournemouth Beach, especially after busy days. Councillor Richard Herrett mentioned they are exploring long-term solutions, such as adding underground bins near the pier, rather than increasing above-ground bins which may clutter the area. He noted that existing capacity already exceeds waste needs but acknowledged that user behavior—like not using bin lids—contributes to the litter problem. Councillor Herrett ruled out introducing beach charges, emphasizing that public access to the beach should remain unrestricted, despite rising concerns over antisocial behavior and littering in popular spots.
