Labour MP Neil Duncan-Jordan is advocating for a ban on companies receiving government contracts if they donate to political parties. At a recent event titled “ban the givers and takers,” he expressed concerns about corporate donors’ influence on public procurement, emphasizing that donations are strategic investments for access and influence. He highlighted that companies have donated £47 million to parties over 25 years while securing £60 billion in contracts since 2015. Backed by the think tank Autonomy, he proposed an amendment to the Representation of the People Bill aimed at severing the link between political donations and public contracts.
