Ferndown Upper School is pioneering boys’ education nationally through its Boys’ Programme, initiated by deputy headteacher Deneen Kenchington and assistant headteacher Oliver McVeigh. Established four years ago, the program invites boys and some girls to participate, focusing on their expressed interests, such as fitness, mental health, and hobbies. It encourages open discussions on sensitive topics like body image and masculinity, featuring guest speakers. Feedback informs ongoing improvements. The initiative aims to enhance boys’ emotional expression and behavior, positively affecting attendance and engagement, and fostering a supportive culture. The program is self-funded and promotes equality, benefiting all students.
