A juvenile white-tailed eagle, Britain’s largest bird of prey, is missing in North Yorkshire, sparking a police investigation as its satellite tag ceased transmitting under suspicious circumstances. Named G834, this eagle was the first to be born in the wild in Dorset in 240 years, part of a reintroduction project that began in 2019. Conservationists expressed sadness over its disappearance, emphasizing the eagerness of the public for the species’ return. Despite earlier concerns about livestock predation, studies indicated the eagles primarily target small animals. Investigations were prompted by previous incidents involving the suspicious deaths of released eagles.
