Starting June 1, over 100 roads in Winton and surrounding areas will adopt a new 20mph speed limit. This initiative covers 139 roads in Charminster, Moordown, and Talbot Woods, aiming to enhance safety for children, seniors, pedestrians, and cyclists. The change seeks to decrease personal injury collisions, reduce congestion, and improve air quality. Public support for the “20mph neighbourhood” has been strong, especially after reviewing collision data from 2019 to 2023, which recorded 217 casualties, including 36 serious injuries. The initiative is part of a broader effort to create safer residential streets.
