Following recent disturbances at Bournemouth beach, Dorset Police issued special ‘stop and search’ powers on May 28 to ensure public safety. The decision came after violent incidents on May 26, where officers faced assaults and arrests were made. Among those detained were a 22-year-old for possessing an offensive weapon and two 17-year-olds for assault and affray. Chief Superintendent Julie Howe condemned the violence, emphasizing public protection. The stop and search order, which enabled officers to search individuals for weapons without explanation, was implemented in areas prone to violence. Police engagement during this period successfully prevented further disorder, allowing families to enjoy the beach peacefully.
