On May 26, SWASFT recorded its busiest day ever, responding to 3,941 incidents, a 24% increase from the previous year. Chief Executive John Martin emphasized the need for ambulances to be available for life-threatening emergencies, urging the public to reserve 999 for serious situations. Many calls involved non-emergency issues like sunburn, which should instead be addressed through self-care or NHS 111. SWASFT advised using community health resources for non-critical conditions and recommended precautions during heatwaves, including staying hydrated and checking on vulnerable individuals. They are closely monitoring demand and working with NHS partners to ensure care continuity.
