New mosaics brighten Christchurch coast

New mosaic artworks have been installed along the sea wall between Mudeford Quay and Gundimore Beach, showcasing 14 local wildlife species, including the Natterjack Toad and Oystercatcher. Created by Christchurch-based artist Matthew Byrom (iffy), the hand-cut ceramic pieces aim to celebrate local nature and raise wildlife awareness. The project involved community workshops, connecting participants to heritage and art-making. Councillor Andy Martin praised the series for highlighting Christchurch’s rich wildlife and local creativity. The mosaics are now accessible along the public pathway, with further information provided on the Explore BCP website.
