Chesney Hawkes, 90s one-hit wonder, adored friendly Dorset

Chesney Hawkes, famed for his 1991 hit “The One and Only,” has a strong connection to Dorset, particularly the village of Cerne Abbas, where he enjoyed friendships, notably with local figure Vic Irvine. Though based in Surrey, he frequently visited Dorset, engaging with the community through performances and events. Chesney surprised students at Weymouth’s Budmouth Technology College in 2000 and later celebrated the royal wedding at a local street party in 2011. He also supported Vic in his brewing ventures. Tragically, Vic passed away in January 2025, leaving cherished memories in the village and beyond.
