BCP urges parking fine powers

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council is advocating for the permanent introduction of higher parking fines or an extended trial this summer. Council leader Millie Earl has reached out to Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander for clarity following a successful trial last August, which led to reduced illegal parking and improved access for buses and emergency vehicles. Councillor Richard Herrett emphasized that illegal parking typically increases in summer, suggesting stronger enforcement measures effectively mitigate this issue. The council’s findings have been submitted to the Department for Transport, but an official response is still pending.
