Dorset HealthCare is expanding its vaccination program for over 6,500 young people in response to three local cases of meningitis B. The initial vaccinations began at Budmouth Academy and Wey Valley, with clinics set to run from June 1 for those in school years 7 to 13. Currently, 76% of eligible youth have received their first dose, but a second dose is crucial for full protection. Evening and Saturday clinic sessions will be available for students who missed the in-school clinics. Health officials stress the importance of recognizing meningitis symptoms and the low risk of spread outside the Weymouth area.
