Katie O’Donnell, a communication and media student, won the 2026 Orwell Society/NUJ Young Journalist’s Award in the Reviews category, marking the first time a student from her university achieved this. The award, intended for UK students and early career journalists aged 18-25, features judges like Gary Younge and Hardeep Matharu. O’Donnell was recognized for her review of Ethel Cain’s album “Preacher’s Daughter.” She expressed gratitude for the support from Dr. Jaron Murphy and noted that the achievement confirmed her commitment to music and culture journalism. Along with the award, she received £750 and memberships to relevant organizations.
