Parents may face imprisonment for their children’s criminal acts

The UK Government plans to reform the youth justice system by enhancing Parenting Orders, potentially increasing fines beyond the current £1,000 cap and allowing for imprisonment in rare circumstances for non-compliance. The proposals aim to give judges more options for working with parents, including mandatory counseling. These measures are part of a recently published Youth Justice White Paper, which outlines the government’s commitment to breaking the cycle of youth offending.
