On May 13, 2026, Councillor Maggie Fidler was appointed as mayor of Christchurch for the 2026–27 civic year, with Councillor Sandra Prudom as Deputy Mayor. Outgoing mayor Viv Charrett reflected on her term and donated £3,831 to the Christchurch Carnival committee. In her inaugural address, Mayor Fidler emphasized her goals to enhance community engagement, raise awareness of the council’s initiatives, and celebrate Christchurch’s heritage. She also announced Christchurch International Scouting as her chosen charity for the year.
