MP criticises King’s Speech for neglecting animal welfare issues

Neil Duncan-Jordan MP expressed disappointment over the lack of mention of stronger animal welfare laws in the King’s Speech, particularly concerning fox hunting, which remains prevalent despite the 2004 Hunting Act. Highlighting strong public support for animal welfare reform, he urged the government to adopt his Hunting Act 2004 (Amendment) Bill, aimed at eliminating current exemptions. He emphasized that over 70% of voters demand such reforms, indicating that the public expects the government to address these pressing issues effectively. Duncan-Jordan welcomed the government’s consultation on trail hunting, characterizing it as a step towards necessary legislative action.
