Ferndown Middle School announced a norovirus outbreak on May 13 and has temporarily closed for thorough cleaning, set to reopen on May 18. The UK Health Security Agency is collaborating with Dorset Council to manage the situation. Deputy Headteacher Alysia Dolan expressed gratitude for community support and emphasized the cleaning measures taken. Norovirus, known as the “winter vomiting bug,” causes symptoms like nausea, diarrhea, and fever, usually resolving within two days. The NHS recommends staying home and drinking fluids to prevent dehydration, advising individuals to avoid returning to school or work until symptom-free for 48 hours.
