Dorset care home resident marks 90th birthday on VE Day

Wendy Martin, a resident at Newstone House, celebrated her 90th birthday with a tribute to her 9th birthday, recalling the end of World War II. The event featured Victoria sponge cake, fresh strawberries, and a tribute to Frank Sinatra amid a festive atmosphere decorated with Union Jacks. Wendy described her 90th celebration as “absolutely magnificent” and expressed gratitude to Chef Jack for recreating her childhood cake. Joined by family and fellow residents, including war veterans, Wendy’s special day highlighted precious memories from a significant historical moment. Her husband, Derek, thanked the staff for their efforts.
