School backs campaign to keep patrol

Concerns about traffic and safety are prompting calls to retain school crossing patrol officer Sarah Middleton at Ferndown Middle School. Headteacher Grant Hopkins supports the campaign, emphasizing that traffic remains dangerous despite new zebra crossings on Church Road. He witnessed firsthand how congestion and large vehicles hinder visibility for young pedestrians. Middleton, who has worked at the crossing for 18 months, noted rising traffic levels and reported receiving abuse from drivers reluctant to stop. Local councillor Cathy Lugg also advocates for keeping the patrol, stating the area becomes “very dangerous” without proper supervision for children crossing the road.
