A judge described a gang from Bournemouth and Poole as “organised, skilled, and sophisticated” in evading tax on smuggled cigarettes. The group concealed 805,000 cigarettes, disguised as model planes and furniture, and distributed them from locations, including a Southampton market. Following multiple raids, two key members, Tatiana Vaivode and Salah Sabir, received sentences of three years and two and a half years, respectively. Other members also received varying sentences, with some roles deemed lesser. Authorities stated this criminal activity evaded millions in tax, impacting public services and potentially supporting further organized crime.
