DSAA Celebrates Ten Years of Emergency Blood Transfusions

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) celebrates a decade of pre-hospital emergency blood transfusions, a service that has saved 473 lives since its launch in 2016. This initiative enables medical professionals to administer blood transfusions on-site during emergencies, whether at the roadside or in rural areas. Dr. Phil Hyde, medical director, emphasized the significance of this capability in sustaining patients with severe injuries until they reach the hospital. A special event marked the anniversary, acknowledging the collaborative efforts of various organizations and thanking blood donors and volunteers for their vital contributions to patient care.
