Dorset Police deploy lorry to apprehend drink and drug drivers

Dorset Police, in collaboration with National Highways, conducted a roads policing initiative using an unmarked heavy goods vehicle (HGV) from April 27 to May 1. Officers, positioned for a better view, captured traffic offences via video, resulting in 171 reports. Violations included 80 for seatbelt non-use and 59 for mobile phone use. The operation led to three arrests for drink or drug driving and involved two officer assaults. Inspector Lee Turner emphasized road safety, noting serious injuries from distractions. The initiative aims to reduce unacceptable driving behaviors and improve road safety across Dorset.
