Lorry journeys at Povington Pit set to nearly double

The Povington Pit in Dorset will extract 60,000 tonnes of sand, transported by HGVs to Wareham until 2037. This ongoing operation, managed by Imerys, extends existing ball clay extraction, which is vital for ceramics and fine china production. A £210,000 Landscape Enhancement Fund will be established, with detailed restoration plans for the site, including creating lakes, wetland areas, and wildlife habitats. Although three veteran trees may be lost, the restoration aims to boost biodiversity. Dorset Council approved the plan unanimously, supporting both environmental and economic benefits.
