Call for young carer support in schools

New proposals seek to enhance the identification and support of young carers in schools across BCP and the UK. MYTIME Young Carers met with Vikki Slade and Ed Davey to advocate for practical changes. Many young carers remain unidentified, leading to poor attendance and hindered learning. CEO Krista Cartlidge highlighted the need for consistent systems, noting early identification can significantly improve school outcomes. The organization is urging schools to record young carers as mandated in the School Census and to provide funding for training Young Carer Champions in every school to ensure reliable support. Slade emphasized the necessity of this identification for effective assistance.
