A Wimborne company, Upton Specialised Tree Services Ltd, was fined £60,000 after a tree surgeon, Joshua Pocknell, suffered life-threatening injuries from an electric shock while operating a mobile lighting tower near Royal Wootton Bassett. The incident occurred on April 19, 2024, when the tower contacted an overhead powerline. Pocknell, who experienced severe pain and long-term effects from the injuries, spent five weeks in the hospital. The Health and Safety Executive found the company guilty of failing to assess risks associated with powerlines and not providing necessary training. Inspector Tom Preston emphasized the need for safer work practices.
