Wildfire warning as fires rise

The Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is warning the public to stay cautious this summer due to an increase in wildfire incidents, which rose from 510 in 2023 to 1,040 in 2025. Many fires are believed to be deliberately set, with a significant blaze at Holt Heath last year destroying around 72 hectares. Fire crews are collaborating with Dorset Police to combat intentional fire-setting and protect sensitive environments. Officials encourage vigilance and responsible outdoor behavior, urging people to report any suspicious activity or fires immediately.
