Christchurch care home resident marks remarkable 100th birthday celebration

Joan Burston, a resident of Tricuro Avon View, celebrated her birthday on April 17. A former nurse who began her career at 17, Joan served during World War II, where she saved many children’s lives despite her hospital being bombed. For her special day, she requested to help make a fruit cake, reminiscing about baking with her mother, along with bunting and balloons. The celebration included a cream tea, entertainment from a singing duo reflecting her love for opera, and a card from King Charles. Joan rounded off her day with a gin and tonic.
