Mozambican and British folk musicians perform at Square & Compass

Clawhammer banjo player Kate Griffin and percussionist Matchume Zango, known for the African timbila, are set to perform at The Square & Compass in Swanage on July 23, emphasizing a unique cross-cultural collaboration that merges world rhythms with modern songwriting. They initially met through an online residency during the pandemic in 2020, eventually collaborating in person in Mozambique two years later. Their performances blend traditional instruments and contemporary influences. Griffin has worked with the Indo-folk collective Mishra, while Matchume is recognized as a master of timbila, contributing to diverse fields like theater and dance.
