Dorset Camera Club member spots white deer on heathland

Tony Smart photographed an unusual white deer while driving near the Dorset border. Spotted by his wife, the deer was part of a small herd of around ten. This isn’t the first time Smart has seen a white deer in the same area; he recalled encountering a similar one last year. White deer, often fallow, are not classified as rare but are certainly uncommon. They have normal eye pigmentation and a paler appearance due to decreased melanin production. Additionally, the British Deer Society often receives inquiries about these deer, which stand out prominently within herds.
