Plans have been submitted by Aldi to demolish Railway Cottage beside its new Canford Bottom store to enhance landscaping. Initially included for demolition, this part was later withdrawn. The cottage, linked to Dorset’s railway history, previously housed a level crossing supervisor. A consultant noted the building is extensively altered and lacks historical interest inside. Local objections have emerged, with resident Hilary Pascall calling it a “perfectly good property” and part of Canford Bottom’s history. Colehill Town Council also opposed the demolition, expressing sadness over losing the historic building and proposed listing it as a heritage site.
