A campaign for installing lifts at Pokesdown Station began in 2011 but faced delays. In 2022, BCP Council pledged £2.6 million for accessibility improvements, but later withdrew funding. Bournemouth East MP Tom Hayes secured government funding to proceed with plans to convert goods lifts to passenger lifts. The proposal includes installing canopies for weather protection, resurfacing walkways, and adding seating and safety features. Planning documents were submitted on April 13 under application number P/26/01669/PROTH, expect a decision after consultations. The project has been simplified to focus solely on lift installation.
