How town councils could be scrapped

BCP Council announced that the establishment of new town councils in Bournemouth, Broadstone, and Poole could be reversed, but only through a formal process. Despite 74% of respondents opposing the plans, councillors approved them in 2025. To overturn this decision, a new Community Governance Review is required, which can be initiated by the council or via a public petition. The number of signatures needed varies, and the review can address changes like abolishing councils or altering boundaries. The process, aimed at ensuring community input, must conclude within 12 months and involves multiple consultation stages.
