Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) responded to a thatched roof fire in Kingston, Sturminster Newton, Dorset, on April 19 at 7:07 PM. Firefighters from multiple stations, including Sturminster Newton and Blandford, worked through the night, with a peak of about 45 firefighters on site. Crews used water and compressed air foam to extinguish the flames and salvaged personal possessions. The incident’s cause was determined to be heat transfer from a wood-burning stove. As of April 20, efforts continued with a reduced crew to dampen down and remove thatch while the area was advised to be avoided.
