“The Tower on the Hill,” authored by historian David J. Hawkings, explores the history and engineering behind Swanage’s water supply. Published by Halsgrove in collaboration with Swanage Museum, the book reflects Hawkings’ fascination with local watercourses, which began in his childhood. After relocating to Swanage in 2021, he delved into the history of the town’s prominent water tower and its surrounding water supply, highlighting the community’s shift from reliance on wells to modern systems. The book celebrates the individuals who played vital roles in this evolution, aiming to inspire others to appreciate local histories.
