Former Dorset Police officer James McClements, 35, was sentenced for misconduct involving a domestic abuse victim after pleading guilty at Bristol Crown Court. He received an 8-month suspended prison sentence for developing an inappropriate sexual relationship with a victim he had met during an investigation in November 2023. McClements provided his personal number and discouraged the victim from reporting the perpetrator to protect himself. He resigned in April 2024 after being arrested and reported to the police. Dorset Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Farrell condemned his actions, emphasizing the breach of trust placed in law enforcement.
