In 2013, AFC Bournemouth hosted Real Madrid at the Goldsands Stadium in a celebratory exhibition match for Bournemouth’s Championship promotion. Despite losing 6-0, the match featured stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric. Bournemouth’s then-chairman Eddie Mitchell arranged the game, ensuring the new south stand was ready. This stand, originally temporary, has been in use during the club’s rise through English football. Over 13 years, Bournemouth progressed to the Premier League and even European competition. The 2013/14 season laid the groundwork for both clubs’ successes, with Bournemouth finishing in the top ten and Madrid securing their tenth Champions League title.
