Between 2023 and 2025, Dorset experienced 3,891 recorded road traffic accidents, with a notable decrease of 20% from 2023 to 2025. Young drivers aged 20-39 caused 35% of these crashes. The leading cause of accidents was “ineffective observation,” accounting for 1,201 incidents, followed by poor turning execution and judgment errors, both with 303 each. Surprisingly, speeding and drink-driving were lower on the list than expected. Dorset Police emphasized the importance of safe driving practices, urging all motorists to prioritize safety and awareness to prevent collisions and protect all road users.
