Increasing number of Dorset children may qualify for free meals

Starting September, Dorset Council will offer free school meals to all children whose parents receive Universal Credit, eliminating the previous £7,400 earnings cap. Families are urged to check their eligibility from June 1, as early applications are encouraged to prevent missing out. Free school meals are divided into two categories: targeted (for those earning below £7,400 or receiving certain benefits, with additional funding for schools) and expanded (for those above that threshold, without extra funding). Parents should apply or reapply individually for each child, even for those already enrolled. More details can be found on the Dorset Council website.
