Sandbanks resident triumphs in ‘Battle of the Berlin Wall’

Ken Lynch faced backlash from neighbors after replacing a wooden fence with a 75-foot-long, 7-foot-tall grey concrete wall on Sandbanks Road, likened to the Berlin Wall. Residents argued the wall was oppressive and out of character for the upscale Lilliput neighborhood and complained to the planning authority. However, BCP Council granted Lynch retrospective permission, finding the wall did not significantly disrupt the area’s aesthetics. Many neighbors expressed disappointment at the decision, fearing it sets a precedent for developers to flout planning laws. Lynch, who purchased the property in 2025 for £1 million, declined to comment further.
