During the recent bank holiday, record temperatures attracted thousands of tourists to the 15-mile coastline of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole. However, they left behind significant litter, including tents and bottles, leading BCP Council to collect over 83 tonnes of waste, a 260% increase from the previous weekend. With teams starting early at 4 am, additional patrols monitored the area to combat littering and safeguard parks and beaches. Councillor Richard Herrett expressed frustration over visitors’ disregard for the environment, emphasizing the need for everyone to take responsibility for their waste to maintain the cleanliness of the coastline.
