Ambulance service records busiest day

On May 26, 2026, South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust reported its busiest day ever, responding to 3,941 incidents. Over four days, the service handled 18,206 calls, a 24% increase compared to the previous year. The Trust urged proper use of NHS services, recommending NHS 111, pharmacies, and GP services for non-emergencies, as many calls involved issues like sunburn. Chief Executive John Martin emphasized the importance of staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activities during extreme heat, and checking on vulnerable individuals. The organization is stressing the need to reserve emergency calls for life-threatening situations.
