A Rockwell B-1 Lancer, a supersonic heavy bomber used by the U.S. Air Force, was observed flying over Portland while returning to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. The aircraft, nicknamed ‘Bone,’ had taken off from the airbase, traveled to the North Sea and Mediterranean, then returned to the UK. It has been stationed in the UK since March and actively participated in U.S. airstrikes against Iran to undermine its ballistic missile capabilities. The B-1 Lancer can carry a payload of up to 75,000 pounds and is one of three strategic bomber types in the U.S. Air Force.
