Councillor Maggie Fidler has been appointed as the Town Mayor of Christchurch for the 2026-27 municipal year, with Councillor Sandra Prudom as Deputy Mayor. The formal appointment took place on May 13, 2026, during a ceremony at Druitt Hall, featuring a civic procession. Outgoing Mayor Viv Charrett marked the end of her term and presented a cheque to the Mayor’s Charity. In her inaugural address, Fidler emphasized plans to engage local residents, enhance community connections, and preserve Christchurch’s heritage. She selected Christchurch International Scouting as her charity for the year and named her son as Town Mayor’s Consort.
